Move Wish List #16

I'm fairly bored at work, so I thought I'd browse IMDB and look at some 2013 movies! I already have a large list of new films to see... (here and here)

(Last Updated: 25 December 2013)

Storage 24 (2012) - Horror|Sci-Fi. In London, a military plane crashes leaving its highly classified contents strewn across the city. Completely unaware that the city is in lockdown, a group of people become trapped inside a storage facility with a highly unwelcome guest.
I don't recognise the cast, but the plot sounds intriguing! Plus I like a good thriller/sci-fi.

Beautiful Creatures (2013) - Drama|Fantasy. Ethan longs to escape his small Southern town. He meets a mysterious new girl, Lena. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town.
I saw the preview to this and was instantly drawn to it - I've since bought the book (this is based on the first of four books).

Stoker (2013) - Drama|Horror|Mystery|Thriller. After India's father dies, her Uncle Charlie, who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her unstable mother. She comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives and becomes increasingly infatuated with him.
English-language debut from Chan-wook Park, director of Thirst and the Lady Vengeance trilogy most popularly represented by its second installment, Oldboy. Love his films and this one sounds great. Stars Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode, Dermot Mulroney

The Host (2013) - Sci-Fi|Thriller. A parasitic alien soul is injected into the body of Melanie Stryder. Instead of carrying out her race's mission of taking over the Earth, "Wanda" (as she comes to be called) forms a bond with her host and sets out to aid other free humans.
I actually enjoyed reading this book (as opposed to Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series). Plus I really like the director, Andrew Niccol.

The Place Beyond the Pines (2012) - Crime|Drama. A motorcycle stunt rider turns to robbing banks as a way to provide for his lover and their newborn child, a decision that puts him on a collision course with an ambitious rookie cop navigating a department ruled by a corrupt detective.
Helllooo cast: Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, (Eva Mendes), Rose Byrne.

The Heat (2013) - Action|Comedy|Crime. Uptight FBI special agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) is paired with testy Boston cop Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy) in order to take down a ruthless drug lord. The hitch: neither woman has ever had a partner -- or a friend for that matter.
Miss Congeniality anybody?! Still, I liked that film.

Oblivion (2013) - Action|Adventure|Sci-Fi|Thriller. One of the few remaining drone repairmen assigned to Earth, its surface devastated after decades of war with the alien Scavs, discovers a crashed spacecraft with contents that bring into question everything he believed about the war, and may even put the fate of mankind in his hands.
I'm not an instant Tom Cruise fan, but I saw a teaser trailer for this a while back and was intrigued. Also stars Morgan Freeman.

Iron Man 3 (2013) - Action|Adventure|Sci-Fi. Marvel's "Iron Man 3" pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds (Mandarin). When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

The Great Gatsby (2013) - Drama|Romance. Nick Carraway, a Midwesterner now living on Long Island, finds himself fascinated by the mysterious past and lavish lifestyle of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby. He is drawn into Gatsby's circle, becoming a witness to obsession and tragedy.

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) - Action|Adventure|Sci-Fi. After the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

The Hangover Part III (2013) - Comedy. This time, there's no wedding. No bachelor party. What could go wrong, right? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off.
Number three already??!!

The Fast and the Furious 6 (2013) - Action|Adventure|Crime|Thriller. Plot unknown.
It doesn't take much to plot these movies... fast cars... robbery of some sort... throw in some cops and some bad guys... The fact that this one will star Michelle Rodriguez again is interesting...

The Purge (2013) - Sci-Fi|Thriller. Given the country's overcrowded prisons, the U.S. government begins to allow 12-hour periods of time in which all illegal activity is legal. During one of these free-for-alls, a family must protect themselves from a home invasion.
I like the sound, and the cast, of this one: Lena Headey, and Ethan Hawke.

Much Ado About Nothing (2012) - Comedy|Drama|Romance. A modern retelling of Shakespeare's classic comedy about two pairs of lovers with different takes on romance and a way with words.
Shakespeare in the hands of Joss Whedon - what else is there to say?! This is also one of my favourite of Shakespeare's plays.

Man of Steel (2013) - Action|Adventure|Fantasy|Sci-Fi. An alien infant is raised on Earth, and grows up with superhuman abilities. He sets out to use these abilities to guard his adopted world.
Director: Zack Snyder. Stars: Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon.

This Is the End (2013). Action|Comedy. While attending a party at James Franco's house, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel and many other celebrities are faced with the apocalypse.
Directors: Evan Goldberg| Seth Rogen. Stars: Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, James Franco, Paul Rudd.

Monsters University (2013) - Animation|Adventure|Comedy|Family|Fantasy. A look at the relationship between Mike and Sulley during their days at the University of Fear -- when they weren't necessarily the best of friends.
I'm a big fan of Monsters Inc :)

World War Z (2013) - Action|Drama|Horror|Sci-Fi|Thriller. A U.N. employee is racing against time and fate, as he travels the world trying to stop the outbreak of a deadly Zombie pandemic.
Director: Marc Forster. Stars: Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, David Morse, James Badge Dale.
I saw a preview for this last month - totally up my alley! I'm going to get myself a copy of the book too.

White House Down (2013) - Action|Drama. A Secret Service agent is tasked with saving the life of the U.S. President after the White House is overtaken by a paramilitary group.
Director: Roland Emmerich. Stars: Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Richard Jenkins.

Kick-Ass 2 (2013) - Action|Comedy|Crime|Thriller. The costumed high-school hero Kick-Ass joins with a group of normal citizens who have been inspired to fight crime in costume. Meanwhile, the Red Mist plots an act of revenge that will affect everyone Kick-Ass knows.
I can only hope this sequel is even half as good as the first movie.
