Omaha Dreaming

Slightly sporadically, we headed to Omaha Saturday morning to stay with friends. The weather was a-mazing, and so was the company!

Walking on the beach, delicious food, Verve and Moet, chocolate, and an improved game of 'Taboo' that had us rolling on the ground ("I can't sing in...?"  "..tune!" "...key!" "... Zimbabwe!", or, "As a teacher I was always covered in...? "...sweat!" "...spit!"... the answer was chalk...)

Welcome, Little Baby Bee

I've been having a crafty week! Last night I set up a production line for the following baby cards. I've put together two sets - one each for my pregnant friends, Leigh and Nici. They can use them as thank-you cards, annoucement cards... however they want :)

They are simple! I stuck with yellow to be on the safe side hehe. I used yellow buttons, black ink, white cards, Paper Trey Ink's baby stamps, and My Mind's Eye yellow/white paper.

Hello New Job

Last Monday, 11th February, I started my new job! I forgot that 'new person' feeling... like going to a new school for the first time! Everything ended up going really well.

I am starting to fit in (slowly but surely). I feel utterly welcome that is for sure!

As a welcome gift, the CEO gives everyone different teac cups and saucers. Mine is a gorgeous Queen Anne set.

Thursday of my first week was Valentine's Day (marking almost a year since my big break-up with d*ckhead). We arrived into an all day meeting to find these for everyone:

I feel valued already :)

I'm in my second week now, and I can't wait to see what happens next!

Farewell Old Job

My last day at my old job was Tuesday 5th February. After 6.5 years it was time to leave. It's worth noting that it was a hard decision at first - the recruiter found me from LinkedIn and called me, so I just went along with an 'I have nothing to lose' attitude.

She'd called me right when everything was going to sh*t: I've worked on 2 projects over 4 years, both for new databases... the 1st never happened and I trooped on. The 2nd project will happen... it was really close to happening until our Aus office put on the brakes. I was frustrated and furious! Then I got the call from the recruiter...

The more I went through the interview process, the more I realised I wanted the new job - I didn't want to lose that job to someone else! The company, a charity, is awesome (I've worked for a charity before), and the role was amazing (the unused database already in place can be replaced with a new one if I recommend it so; finally some respect). And, more money - the kind of money I had been aiming for at my old job, but was only inching towards year by year.

Here's a little of my farewell in photos:

The receptionist at work hosted an afternoon tea for me at her house :) Below is her amazing angel food cake.

To my absolute surprise and delight, one of the franchise offices sent me a good luck bottle of bubbly!!

My boss took me, and six other girls out to lunch. It was my choice, so I picked Kermadec. For my entree I had crispy squid (pictured below), followed by Hapuka, then Creme Brulee (with poached strawberries, caramel popcorn, and lemon sorbet, pictured).

I got lots of lovely gifts from others, and more cake! And of course the giant card signed by all.

I left. Yes, I was sad... mainly to not be working with those that were now friends. But I was also excited to be going to a new job :)

Cupcakes and Thankyous

Here are some of my latest card creations.

First, having left my job for a new one, I wanted to say thanks to my old work colleagues (and friends!):

I bought little cards with envelopes (pink, and white), Basic Grey and Amy Tangerine paper, a chevron die, a Martha Stewart bow punch, rhinestones, Lawn Fawn speech mark stamp, light yellow ribbon, Hero Arts 'thanks so much' stamp, a tag punch, turquoise ink, and blck ink.

This next one is a birthday card. I bought little cards with envelopes (white), My Mind's Eye paper, 3 different sized tag dies, 'Absolutely' die and co-ordinating stamps (Fabulous and Awesome), PaperTery Ink Tiny stamps (cupcake and eat cake), rhinestones, brown ink, paprika coloured ink, enamel dots (2 different colours), and ribbon.

I got an order from Papertrey Ink, so had to try out my new cupcake stamp set! I made these using the set, plus various: rhinestones, Kaisercraft paper, card, a star punch, a tag punch, ribbon embellishments, pink, brown, turquoise and dark pink ink, and a scalloped edge punch. I don't have a die to cut the cupcake pieces (note: must see if PTI have done one!), so I cut the sections out by hand.

Time Management Games: Northern Tale

Yes, I looove time management games. Time Management games are games in which you perform a series of tasks or processes as quickly as possible e.g. manage/cook/serve at a restaurant, stock/run a supermarket, babysit, manage a hotel, build/decorate houses. When I finish a TMG I love, I Google trying to find more like it. Also, when I say 'finish', I mean get the gold/expert score on every single level!

Today's game is...

... Northern Tale
I liked the story- really fleshed out plot and cute little facts about vikings along the way. It had some challenges too- I certainly managed to get trapped on some levels!! A fun game that I would definitely recommend - if there is ever a sequel etc. I would buy it!

Play as the mighty Viking, King Ragnar, and embark on a journey spanning beautiful forests filled with mythical creatures to save your family and cleanse the kingdom of evil in Northern Tale! Join forces with brave companions as you face countless dangers. Bring color back to your realm and use your wisdom, magic and might to restore balance and defeat an evil witch and her cruel servants.

-Three season-themed episodes, Detailed graphics and awesome visuals, Bring color back into the world.

Time Management Games: Daycare Nightmare

Yes, I looove time management games. Time Management games are games in which you perform a series of tasks or processes as quickly as possible e.g. manage/cook/serve at a restaurant, stock/run a supermarket, babysit, manage a hotel, build/decorate houses. When I finish a TMG I love, I Google trying to find more like it. Also, when I say 'finish', I mean get the gold/expert score on every single level!

Today's game is...

...Daycare Nightmare
Cute, but a very easy game to finish - no 'gold star' achievements (which disappointed me as I like the challenge of beating the clock). I did enjoy the different baby monster characters - little vampires, blobs, and cyclops! (very "me").

Baby monsters need love too! In Daycare Nightmare, you care for baby vampires, dragons and other little beasties while their parents are at work. They need feeding and changing, just like human kids. But not just like humans... each monster has a special power youve got to handle. At the end of each day, you can use your tip money to buy power-ups and monster treats for the next day. Theres never been a game thats so cute and so hectic at the same time.

- 49 exciting levels, Great unlockable power-ups, Care for 5 unique beasties
