I've been super in love with my Lawn Fawn Summertime Charm stamps and dies. And the love doesn't stop here! I'm hoping to make a shaker card with the set a la the Lawn Fawn video I watched (here). Unfortunately I don't have all the supplies yet, so in the meantime...

High Morning Tea

I like planning events, yet I am not an event planner; I manage a database! My organisational skills, paired with my creativity, have helped me put on some great events though (mainly for work!).

Today's event was a work colleague, Carla's, birthday AND wedding celebration.

My work allocates everyone a 'birthday buddy'. The identify of your buddy is meant to be a secret - I have Carla, but she will have someone else.

We usually celebrate birthdays here with morning tea (cake, candles and singing), and by decorating our birthday buddy's desk.

Carla got a little extra, because we wanted to celebrate her impending wedding too!

Yesterday two of us looked in many-a-$2-shop for props, and last night I baked heart-shaped scones (well, I tried!). as well as making everyone place cards.

 Setting up the Boardroom today. First job was putting together this amazing cardboard cake-stand (by Talking Tables) that the CEO found.

Once the stand was together, I worked on setting up the rest of the table. I used organza down the middle, with strings of pearls, and little white/pink ribbon rosettes.

 Looking good! Doilies, paper fans, pink flamingos, lace parasol, blowing bubbles, tea cups and pots, party-poppers...

 Found this darling 'wind chime' - tea cup with dangling spoons!

Time to start adding the food - mini-cupcakes, scones (with jam and cream), cucumber sandwiches, and sausage rolls (along with some lollies).

I also made sure everyone had a 'fancy' hat - the guys got top hats and pink bow-ties, the girls got a mixture of facinators. Carla, the bride-to-be, had a mini-veil.

Finally, time to enjoy! (Just don't tell anyone I had Coke Zero in my teacup)

I want to share this

I've been at my new job for just over 2 months. On Tuesday we all found out a colleague had accepted redundancy as part of the restructuring of a team. I was stunned; she was someone I clicked with... an amazing woman.

I just received this email:

I'm glad that my time at work didn't end before you joined. I'm really keen to not only keep in touch but get to know you better. I really want to plan Waiheke too [ed: a girl's weekend at her beach house]. I found out about work the week before we were over and so pleased we got to do that together. I re-read your card this morning and immediately ruined my no-more-tears pact. Whoops. Off for a 90 minute coffee walk with a mate. You will love her ... Will def bring you into the warped mates circle!

So sad to see her go, but so glad that we will keep in touch.

Favourite... Concealer and Under Eye Products

(My skin: Fair colouring, Normal - though prone to both dry and oily areas, Hormonal break-outs usually around my chin/neck, Dark under-eye, in my thirties so some anti-aging concerns)

I am 'blessed' with dark circles under my eyes (that don't won't to budge!), and puffiness, which can vary day to day. Here are two products that help me deal with/hide the problem. Both happen to from Benefit (which I can't actually get in NZ... yet ;) )

1. Benefit's Boi-ing Concealer. 'Industrial-strength concealer'. This award-winning concealer camouflages dark circles, minor imperfections and discoloration without creasing or fading. Even better... the industrial-strength formula is now available in FIVE shades, with a full range from light to deep. Now all gals can be imperfection-free.

I use 01 (I have fair skin), though I have used 02 (I have 02 in an awesome Lemon-aid/Boi-ing duo for travel). This is a little saviour - spots, imperfections... and dark under eye circles. I blend this gently with my finger-tips before I apply Ooh La Lift.

2. Benefit's Ooh La Lift. 'Instant under-eye brightening boost'. This legendary under-eye brightening boost looks like an instant eyelift! Contains raspberry extracts and light-reflecting pigments to instantly perk up tired eyes. This delicate pink balm can be applied on bare skin or over makeup.

I like that this product is cooling/refreshing and illuminating. I apply 3 of so spots under each eye after my wonderful concealor, but before a light sweep of powder. Ooh La Lift hasn't cured anything, but it helps with my dark circles. It's become a part of my everyday routine.

How do you battle dark under eye circles and/or puffiness? Comment below!

Card-tastic

I'm on a role - and if I agreed to let people pay me for my cards, I would have a few more dollars hehe. I'm loving that people want me to make them cards - for their loved ones, colleagues etc.

This first one is for a colleague's daughter, who just graduated University.

Inside the card

This one wasn't 'commissioned' - it's for me to give to a colleague who is leaving. Today is her last day :(

ink: Ranger (black), a range of versacolor ink cubes

My card-making skills were enlisted once more by peeps at work. This week we have two birthdays - Tim on Thursday and Casey on Friday. I'm not that great at making masculine-looking cards, so I decided to go a little cutesy (Tim has little kids, so I thought at least they'd like the cards!).

Love’s Philosophy

I wanted to share this poem that my friend, Alex, shared with me...

Love’s Philosophy
By Percy Bysshe Shelley

The fountains mingle with the river
   And the rivers with the ocean,
The winds of heaven mix for ever
   With a sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single;
   All things by a law divine
In one spirit meet and mingle.
   Why not I with thine?—

See the mountains kiss high heaven
   And the waves clasp one another;
No sister-flower would be forgiven
   If it disdained its brother;
And the sunlight clasps the earth
   And the moonbeams kiss the sea:
What is all this sweet work worth
   If thou kiss not me?

PostSecret Event

"Sometimes when we think we are keeping a secret, that secret is actually keeping us" - Frank

I was lucky enough to go to the PostSecret event at SkyCity Theatre in Auckland on Friday. Frank Warren, creator of the PostSecret project, spoke to us for an hour and a half about the project, secrets, and his journey. He gave a chance for audience members to share their secrets at the conclusion... and after no takers initially, there ended up being lines at the microphones to share.

The thing about secrets as they can be funny, sad, tragic, horrible, hurtful, heart-warming, criminal, sexy... they can be anything. Frank's talk made me laugh out loud many times, and it made me tear-up - if I'd been at home alone, I might've cried.

The project reminds us that there is always hope, and that we are never alone.

After a long time away from the PostSecret blog, I'm heading back there... and I want to post some of the images/secrets here.

PostSecret is an ongoing community mail art project, created by Frank Warren, in which people mail their secrets anonymously on a homemade postcard. Select secrets are then posted on the PostSecret website, or used for PostSecret's books or museum exhibits.
