Before Midnight

NZFF 2013!

It's that (awesome) time of the year again! The New Zealand International Film Festival. I've had a look through the schedule - like every year, there are too many films to pick from. My short list is always far too long.

My wish list is quite conservative this year. As per previous years, I will edit this list going forward.

Favourite... Mascara

Over the years I've tried many different mascaras. In the end, I settled on getting my lashes tinted - that way I didn't have to deal with smudging etc. However, mascara doesn't just add colour to eye lashes: it can thicken, separate, appear to lengthen lashes...

Last year I was in Melbourne, stopping in at a department store to pick up a work colleagues concealor. It was a Benefit concealor - a brand I had never used. As I was about to pay for the concealor, the savvy assistant said: "Have you heard about our amazing new mascara?"... I was sold!

And, you know what?! It is the BEST mascara I was ever used!! So thank you nameless male cosmetic assistant at the Benefit counter in David Jones. He actually started my love affair with the Benefit brand too.

1. They're real! mascara - beyond mascara.
They're real! lengthens, curls, volumizes, lifts & separates. Our jet black, long-wearing formula won’t smudge or dry out. A specially designed brush reveals lashes you never knew you had!
What else you need to know:
94% saw dramatic length & volume*
90% saw base-to-tip curl*
94% saw visible lift*
100% saw long-wearing results*
*Results observed in a consumer panel survey

I adore this product. I even keep a mini of it with me in my hand bag for those mascara-emergencies (?! personally, I've never had one. But I am prepared for one...). It wears incredibly well ALL day.

Up until recently, They're Real was the only mascara I used. But I was still avoiding putting mascara on my lower lashes - I have such light lower lashes that I just make a mess trying to get mascara onto them.

Then I found: Clinique's Bottom Lashes Mascara. Now bottom lashes get in on the action with a brush engineered for tiny tasks and a formula that resists smears. Pair it with any mascara on top, and watch what happens.

The tube is tiny. The mascara wand and brush teeny! So far, so good. No smudging!

Foxes and Flowers

More cards! I had some more fun with my fox stamp and die, and had an experiment with my other new PTI stamp set.

I tried the fox with kraft and white card- the kraft toned in nicely with the papers I was using. I changed up the paper for the white card. I ended up with a wee production line for this simple design.

This mini stamp set is adorable! I did my best with stamping straight onto the card (there was one or two false starts...). Bright and simple! I have the matching die, which cuts out the flowers. I will try a card with them tonight.

Hello Foxy

My new Paper Trey Ink stamping goodies arrived at the beginning of this week. LOVE them.... but... Nah, the but is all my fault - I couldn't decide on the best way to colour the fox. I don't have coptic markers, only Bic ones... And they don't have the same range and blending capabilities as coptics.

Finally I had a brainwave with good old coloured pencils - I have a set of the ones that have a water-coloured paint effect when water is brushed over the colouring.

Introducing my orange foxes!

These babies have been stamped, die-cut, coloured, and 'painted' with water - ready for cards :)

Happy 85th Bday Maurice Sendak

Maurice Bernard Sendak was an American illustrator and writer of children's books. He is best known for his book Where the Wild Things Are, first published in 1963.

Today he would've been 85, and to celebrate Google have made a fantastic Google Doodle ♥ Once you hit play, the story circles past. Here are some scene shots:

If you missed the Google Doodle on the home page, check it out on youtube here.

Black and White

I'm not a fan of my white ink. It's kinda thick and sticky... Yet for some reason I found myself deciding to play with black card and white ink. I wanted to do something simple and clean... but I couldn't resist adding in a little colour (using patterned paper).

Hmm not my favourite creations, but perhaps a jumping point to something better?

Still a heap of shows I could have a go at. There aren't enough watching hours!

Started as a Trio

Over the weekend I was in love with My Mind's Eye 'Follow Your Heart' 6x6 pad, and Lawn Fawn's puffy star stackable dies / Lucky Stars stamps.

What started as a trio of star cards turned into a quartet (?). Anyway, three cards and a bonus card. I manged to only shake-ify two of the cards (love me a shaker card!).

And the bonus card (I threw in Lawn Fawn's Summertime Charm set)

Such fun!
