Amanda Palmer 6 Sep 2013

I've been a fan of The Dresden Dolls for years now (and was lucky enough to see them back in January 2012). Amanda Palmer (one half of the Dolls) has always been on my radar - from social media to ninja shows. I listened to her music, but never committed as such - I guess I got distracted.

I jumped at the chance to see her live though. And we hung out for it too - from venue and date changes that saw the gig delayed by months.

It was well worth the wait! (though my old body could've done with the allocated seat from the original venue!).

I spent some time listening to her newest album (some really great tracks). Still, I was super-stoked when she pulled out some Dresden Dolls tunes, and AWESOME covers, for us!

Set List (and review here)
1.  Map of Tasmania (ukelele solo atop the bar!)
2.  Do It With A Rockstar
3. The Killing Type
4.  Missed Me (Dresden Dolls)
5.  Astronaut
6.  Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana cover)
7.  Lost
8.  From St Kilda to Fitzroy
9.  The Bed Song
10.  The New Zealand Song (Amanda solo on uke)
11. The New Zealand Song (punk version with full band!)
12. Grown Man Cry
13. (There’s a Light) Over At the Frankenstein Place (Rocky Horror Picture Show cover)
14. Bottomfeeder
15. Common People (Pulp cover)
16. Leeds United

Encore:
17. Half Jack (Dresden Dolls)
18. Girl Anachronism (Dresden Dolls)

It was a 2 hr. gig, with Amanda Palmer on the stage the whole time (well, except when she was stage diving, crowd surfing, or standing atop a bar!).

We had a side-of-stage view: half inside / half outside The Kings Arms. Apart from a trio of ridiculous girls, who talked and/or pushed us most the time (I can tell you things, seriously, like: one has the flu but drugged up for the gig), we had a good spot.

Now for some grainy iPhone photos:

Amanda crowd-surfing in an amazing coat, with an ocean-like train that trailed over the fans!
