Hidden Object Games: Dark Dimensions: Somber Song

A Hidden Object Game at a basic level involves finding hidden objects in a picture. The HO games I play do involve this task, but also navigating scenes searching for clues/objects, solving puzzles and mysteries etc. (I'm into more of the sub-genre called HOPA, or Hidden Object Puzzle Adventures)

Today's game is...

... Dark Dimensions: Somber Song (Collector's Edition)

From Daily Magic, makers of Dark Dimensions: City of Fog and Dark Dimensions: Wax Beauty, comes the next exciting chapter in the Dark Dimensions series!

You’ve traveled across the country, tracking down dark dimensions in search of your missing family, when you stumble upon a violent one that has taken over the city of Seven Oaks, North Dakota. The black smoke is chasing people and captured a young girl right in front of your eyes. What caused this dark dimension, and who is being controlled by its influences? You must investigate for the truth behind the town’s recent tragedy if you want to save its future. A friendly spirit may help you, but can you trust him? Free the people and save the town in this exciting hidden-object puzzle adventure game! Bonus chapter, featuring an exciting epilogue!

Developer: Daily Magic Productions

I got to trial this game a couple of weeks back (here). From there I actually ended buying and playing all the past Dark Dimension games I could get my hands on :) I believe I am now up-to-date - with Somber Songs. I decided to get the collector's edition due to the enjoyment I got from the previous games (though I just played the normal version of them).  The collector's edition had an extra game, which was kinda cool! Extended the story and the game play. Another winner, though, like I've found with other DD games, I had some accuracy issues with selecting and using some items.

Hidden Object Games: Dark Dimensions: Wax Beauty

A Hidden Object Game at a basic level involves finding hidden objects in a picture. The HO games I play do involve this task, but also navigating scenes searching for clues/objects, solving puzzles and mysteries etc. (I'm into more of the sub-genre called HOPA, or Hidden Object Puzzle Adventures)

Today's game is...

... Dark Dimensions: Wax Beauty

You've tracked down the latest Dark Dimension to Red Lake Falls, where a haunting beauty queen begs you to save the town but from whom? Is it her brother, last seen busting through a shop window in a jealous rage? Or his stalker girlfriend? The real villain in this thrilling Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure game just might shock you unless you're turned into wax first!
Developer: Daily Magic Productions

(Played on a Mac)

Another GREAT Dark Dimension game! I did find with this one that there were some issues with clicking accuracy - mainly with the hidden object portions, and a few occasions with trying to use objects (which was a little frustrations, and often led to me using the 'hint' button). Slight spoiler: I actually ended up looking at a walk-through when I got truly stuck over the using fire hose with print guillotine. Still, I enjoyed the graphics and game play. I played this for a little every night for around 4 nights. Now I'm onto the next one :)

Today's game is...

... Dark Dimensions: City of Ash

You've been studying the supernatural phenomenon known as dark dimensions since you were very young, hoping that they will eventually lead you to your missing family, but nothing has prepared you for the danger that awaits you in Phoenix Hill, California. Once a prosperous mining town in the 1950s, a volcanic eruption changed everything. Now its citizens are trapped as spirits of ash, unable to move on. Can you uncover the tragedy that caused this dark dimension to appear? While most of the inhabitants are friendly, one fiery ghost will do anything to stop you. Volcanic tremors are rumbling beneath your feet. Will the volcano erupt again? Watch your step in Dark Dimensions: City of Ash, a sizzling Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure game.

The first game in the Dark Dimensions series. Another great HOPA. Very logical game play, with lots of different locations. Liked the story, and the graphics and sound were top notch. I'm onto Dark Dimensions: Wax Beauty next!

... Dark Dimensions: City of Fog

Silvertown was swallowed by fog and disappeared from the face of the earth 100 years ago. Search for a town consumed by fog! Unlock forbidden doors and uncover mysterious items in this thrilling Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure game!
Developer: Daily Magic Productions

(I've just realised this is the 2nd in the Dark Dimensions series)

I had the chance to trial the latest game in this series. For me this was a perfect level of challenge - not boring, or illogical. I had to look at a walk-through once or twice (here in case you need it). Story was interesting and original, graphics and sound great! Definitely recommend it. I'm going straight into another Dark Dimensions game, Wax Beauty!

Hidden Object Games: Dark Parables: Jack and the Sky Kingdom

A Hidden Object Game at a basic level involves finding hidden objects in a picture. The HO games I play do involve this task, but also navigating scenes searching for clues/objects, solving puzzles and mysteries etc. (I'm into more of the sub-genre called HOPA, or Hidden Object Puzzle Adventures)

Today's game is...

... Dark Parables: Jack and the Sky Kingdom

The legendary Sky Kingdom suddenly appears and a destructive barrage is unleashed upon an unsuspecting town. Play as the Fairytale Detective and embark on an investigation to rescue the townspeople. In this quest, you will meet Jack - an infamous treasure hunter who shares a secret past with the Kingdom - and discover the tragic history behind the chaos.
Developer: Blue Tea Games

(Played on a Mac)

Really enjoyed this HOPA, with a different twist on Jack and the Beanstalk. The graphics and sound were great, and the hidden object portions of the game weren't boring - in fact, often it involved finding pieces that would be put together on completion. I'm definitely going to check out some other Dark Parables games.

Hidden Object Games: Mystery of the Ancients: Three Guardians

A Hidden Object Game at a basic level involves finding hidden objects in a picture. The HO games I play do involve this task, but also navigating scenes searching for clues/objects, solving puzzles and mysteries etc. (I'm into more of the sub-genre called HOPA, or Hidden Object Puzzle Adventures)

Today's game is...

... Mystery of the Ancients: Three Guardians

Uncover the secrets of Green Hill in Mystery of the Ancients: Three Guardians! After receiving a frantic call from your niece, you arrive in Green Hill to discover that things have really gone to the birds. A flock of mysterious crows has been terrorizing the town, attacking citizens and causing them to vanish in their tracks. But they’re just the hired help. A strange man in a feathered cloak has a vendetta against your niece’s boyfriend, and he’ll stop at nothing to clear his path to revenge. Can you uncover the secrets behind his feathered fury and rescue Green Hill before it’s too late? Find out in this gorgeous Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure game!
Developer: Mariaglorum Games

I trialed and then bought this game to play in full. I enjoyed the mythology of this game, and the graphics are beautiful. The game play was mostly logical, so I didn't need the hints too much. It didn't take me long to complete (which can be a little disappointing). Not my favourite HOPA so far, but certainly not the worst.

Hidden Object Games: Shadow Wolf Mysteries

A Hidden Object Game at a basic level involves finding hidden objects in a picture. The HO games I play do involve this task, but also navigating scenes searching for clues/objects, solving puzzles and mysteries etc. (I'm into more of the sub-genre called HOPA, or Hidden Object Puzzle Adventures)

Today's games are...

Shadow Wolf Mysteries: Curse of the Full Moon

Called into a small city from the capitol, you have been put in charge of solving a string of mysterious murders! Around the same time as the murders, a wolf has been appearing around town and spooking the townsfolk. With rumors of a werewolf swirling, it's up to you to get to the bottom of the mystery and set the record straight in Shadow Wolf Mysteries: Curse of the Full Moon!

Developer: ERS Game Studios

I actually started with a trial of the second in this series, Bane of the Family. Once I figured that out, I went back to the beginning, with Curse of the Full Moon. Loved this game for many reasons: the story is intriguing and suitably werewolf-y :) ; the graphics were good (I will note there are some images of werewolf attacks that might not be suitable for kids) ; the challenges and object finding/using were a nice balance of ease and tricky, which kept me entertained. I was trying to pick which chapter of the game was my favourite - and I just can't; all the chapters flow so well together! Curse of the Full Moon got me hooked - I immediately bought the next to games to play!

Shadow Wolf Mysteries: Bane of the Family

Return to the De la Fer estate to help the count unravel the curse that has been passed down through his family in Shadow Wolf Mysteries: Bane of the Family! Tackle this challenging Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure game and track down an all new werewolf that is wreaking havoc on the town. Can you break the curse and save the family?

After finishing the first in the Shadow Wolf Mysteries (Curse of the Full Moon), I immediately started on Bane of the Family. Like the first game, we get a lot of different settings/chapters - this time exploring a manor, ship, port, hotel... the list goes on! These changes only add to the adventure/fun, plus objects are often taken from one scene to the next (just to confuse you :P). Expect fantastic graphics and detail, and a great balance of puzzles with hidden object games. Can't wait to play the third Shadow Wolf Mystery!

Shadow Wolf Mysteries: Cursed Wedding

Stop a vengeful werewolf in Shadow Wolf Mysteries: Cursed Wedding! After being called to Paris to help your friend Veronica, you find yourself in the middle of a shocking mystery. The ancient werewolf Mephistus has appeared in town seeking revenge on Veronica and her fiancé just days before their wedding. Explore the gorgeous streets of Paris as you uncover the truth behind the ancient werewolf curse in this thrilling Hidden Object game!

The third game in this series doesn't disappoint! Very entertaining and interactive game, again with great graphics and detail. Cursed Wedding adds a few different sorts of challenges/puzzles to the series (creating the fortune cookie is fun!). The difficulty level isn't very high (if you are after an easy game). I played all three in this series over a weekend - really enjoyed them. Definitely worth my money.

Beta Trials for 2 HOPA Games

Recently Big Fish have emailed me with the chance to test 2 new Hidden Oject Puzzle Adventure Games (along with thousands of others!). Both trials ran for approximately one hour - I played both until the end. It was these trials that actually started me searching out other HOPA games - I was thoroughly impressed with the graphics and play game of each... and when they come out, I'll be buying them!

My opinion on both: good stories that had my interest; nice graphics; fun challenges; I will definitely be looking out for the full releases!

Dark Dimensions: Somber Song
Townspeople flee as their town is covered in black smoke. Can you stop the dark dimension before it’s too late?

Riddles of Fate: Into Oblivion
The 7 deadly sins have plunged peaceful Riddlestone into chaos! Rescue the royal family and save their people from destruction.

Hidden Object Games: True Fear: Forsaken Souls Collector's Edition

A Hidden Object Game at a basic level involves finding hidden objects in a picture. The HO games I play do involve this task, but also navigating scenes searching for clues/objects, solving puzzles and mysteries etc. (I'm into more of the sub-genre called HOPA, or Hidden Object Puzzle Adventures)

Today's game is...

... True Fear: Forsaken Souls Collector's Edition

What if everything you knew about your life, everything your family ever told you, turned out to be a lie? A strange midnight visitor could change your life forever... Find out the truth about your past in True Fear: Forsaken Souls, a chillingly exciting Hidden Object Puzzle game! This is a special Collector's Edition release full of exclusive extras you won't find in the standard version.
Developer: Goblinz Games

I think has game had me at 'Warning: True Fear: Forsaken Souls is an intense psychological thriller intended for mature audiences.' That said, I didn't find this scary - certainly creepy and dark, and not suitable for children for sure. I really enjoyed the game play. I needed the hints a few times, but mostly everything played out logically IMO (I wish hints would give you an actual hint instead of leading you by the hand - but this is the way with most the HO games I have played). The story plays out in Acts, so there is a heap of different settings/scenes to explore (yay!). I would recommend this game to adults that like horror-bent HO games. I will definitely be buying any sequel.

Today's game is...

... Witches' Legacy: The Charleston Curse
End the Charleston Curse before it wipes out an entire family and save a young girl in Witches’ Legacy: The Charleston Curse! After finding out that you are the last living relative to a young orphan named Lynn, you discover the terrifying tale of her family. The Charlestons have been systematically killed by a witch and now it’s up to you to protect Lynn! Confront the terrifying witch and save Lynn in Witches’ Legacy: The Charleston Curse!
Developer: EleFun Games

This is the first time I've ever played a Hidden Object game from start to finish. I enjoyed the story, though found it disconcerting to see real life actor faces used in some scenes! As a relative beginner to this genre, I found it a great starter game: I did use the hints a bit, and I occassionally skipped some of the puzzles. I found the ingame tips very helpful - I did have an issue with a crowbar, which made me restart the game (if you play this, then I can tell you there are a couple of things that need to be pried open! Don't lose that crowbar before we've actioned them all!). I had fun exploring the haunted house and its grounds. It took me around 3-4 hours to complete non-stop.
