Tarte and Make Up For Ever

(My skin: Fair colouring, Normal - though prone to both dry and oily areas, Hormonal break-outs usually around my chin/neck, Dark under-eye, in my thirties so some anti-aging concerns)

I got a new Sephora order this morning (at this moment, my last* ever delivery from them), containing:
  • Tarte's Powderful, in Light (Amazonian Clay Pressed Mineral Powder)
  • Make Up For Ever HD (High Definition) Pressed Powder (Microfinish Pressed Powder)

First up, Tarte.
I have tried a few of their products now, and, I have to say, Tarte is quickly becoming one of my favourite makeup brands! I raved about their BB Cream here

I've been struggling to find a pressed powder compact that I like. I *thought* I loved Urban Decay's relatively new powder (Naked Skin Ultra Definition Pressed Finishing Powder, in Naked Medium Light). I've been through most of the two compacts I bought (I ended up having to throw out one when it got near the end;  I must have dropped it, thereby crumbling the remainder). BUT, my skin has suddenly decided that the powder will now show up all my pores, and even go a little chalky in places. Disappointment.

So, going by how much I like other Tarte products, I decided to take a bet on their pressed powder, choosing the shade of 'Light' (it's hard to guess shades over the web, but I am very happy with this shade now that I have tried it).

Tarte's spiel:
This Amazonian clay infused matte powder soothes skin as it gives the right amount of buildable coverage.

Product Performance: Our whisperlight mineral pressed powder allows skin to breathe while it sets makeup in place, quiets shine, and treats skin to soothing vitamins and minerals. powderful™ can be used wet or dry and alone or with foundation and won't make your face look dusty.

Powered By: Amazonian clay: Amazonian clay acts as a total skin balancer, by hydrating all skin types, reducing the appearance of dry, flaky skin, improving clarity and texture, and removing surface oil to set the stage for a smooth application and long wear.

The case is cute - leather imitation plaiting on the top, plastic on the bottom. It closes with a hidden magnet. The sponge is el cheapo, so I might replace that later. I apply it with a powder brush first thing anyways.

I haven't tried using it wet with the sponge yet (honestly, only just read that I could do that ha! So will try soon).

This is a lovely, light powder that seems to sit well on my skin (fingers-crossed my skin continues to play nicely with it). I'm super-tempted already to buy another compact...

Second,  Make Up For Ever. I had a sample of this previously, and it really seemed to set my make-up and reduce mid-morning shine (which I tend to get). I found myself not having to touch up as much. I bought the smaller compact to try...

Make Up For Ever's spiel:
This pressed finishing powder sets your makeup and slightly mattifies for a natural luminous finish without a trace of color. A real technical and sensory feat, this innovative formula delicately balances a blend of three high-tech ingredients: synthetic mica, silicone powders and silica even out the skin tone with an invisible result. This unique combination of ingredients, thanks to its soft focus effect, instantly fades away the appearance of fine lines and imperfections.  HD Pressed Powder’s lightweight, silky texture blends seamlessly and smoothes your skin. Enriched with hyaluronic acid, it prevents drying. Colorless, it is suitable for all skin tones.

I have to say, despite not being as natural and 'feel good' as tarte as a brand, this product really seems to do what it promises.

As above, I have a mostly 'normal' skin type, so I am not dealing with any super-oily areas. I give a light brush of this as my last make-up step in the mornings, and it really does 'set' my make-up. By mid-morning my skin still looks matte.

Definitely considering buying the bigger compact!

*Sephora cancelled my last order
