Number 5 Degustation, February 2015



At the end of February my brother and I treated ourselves to a five course degustation dinner at Number 5 restaurant. Oh, and matching wines (naughty naughty!).

The last time we were there was New Year's Eve 2012 - so about time we went back!



1. Seared Scallops - sweetcorn, gremolata, prosciutto
Matching Wine: 2014 Te Kairanga Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Martinborough



2. Line Caught Snapper Tartare - horseradish mousse, charred yolk, apple
Matching Wine: 2013 Te Kairanga Estate Chardonnay, Martinborough



3. Carpaccio of Smoked Wild Red Deer - blackcurrant, pistachio
Matching Wine: 2011 Pegasus Bay Merlot Cabernet, Waipara



4. Hawke's Bay Lamb Loin - black olive, white anchovy, tomato, benne potato
Matching Wine: 2013 Te Kairanga Runholder Pinot Noir, Martinborough



5. Coconut Panna Cotta - pineapple, passionfruit
Matching Wine: 2013 Pegasus Bay "Aria" Late Picked Riesling, Waipara




Both of us rated the Carpaccio of Smoked Wild Red Deer with blackcurrant and pistachio as the best course - it was simple, yet absolutely delicious!! I can't wait to go back :)
